The Smallie Slam at St. Clair proved to be elusive and stingy. With several Anglers relying on Large Mouth to get skunk out of the boat before venturing into the abyss of options that is St. Clair. But as the saying goes. No matter the challenge, somebody always finds them and it appeared that wisdom paired with youth offered up the golden ticket for the teams of John Holton and Max Williams as well as Jeff Gibson and Colton Porter. Setting the pace for the Smallmouth hunt. John and Max took the lead on Day 1 with a nice 14.26 lb bag, with Zack and Ron hot on there heels with 14.21 lbs, nabbing BIG BASS of the day with Zack’s 4.11 lb Smallmouth. Jeff and Cotlen would close out the top 3 with 13.50 lbs.
Heading into Day 2, the winds subsided, the skies cleared, and the heat moved in. But the pairings of wisdom and youth prevailed again. As John and Max improved on there Day 1 pattern with 15.54 lbs and the BIG BASS of the day and the weekend of 5.08 lbs. Jeff and Colten couldn’t quite make up the difference with 13.29 lbs, while Zack and Ron would close out the top 3 with 11.85 lbs. As the Smallie Slam comes to an end, the team of John Holton and Max Williams would take the win with 29.90 lbs of Smallmouth bliss, Jeff Gibson and Colten Porter would edge out second with 26.79 lbs, and the team of Zack Williams and Ron Marcum would finish third with 26.06 lbs. With the club ending the weekend with 57 fish and 142.23 lbs of BASS. With the season officially half over. Jeff Durbin still holds the lead for Angler of the Year with Lance Ringhand hot on his heels. Trailing by only 16 points while Colton Porter may already have Co-Angler of the Year wrapped up. With a commanding 54 point lead over Dan Gotforth. From here the club heads to the Rock. Will Jeff Durbin be able to lock up the AOY title? Will Colten Porter make a costly error. Only time will tell.
